Working Title: Sous Chef

Job Summary/Essential Functions: This is a 9-month position in the Dining Services department. This position performs skilled cooking duties and leads food preparation. The position regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of others, and supervises and participates in large-scale preparation and service of food.

Conditions of Employment: This position requires a valid food handler's permit and a driver's license. This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 18. Successfull applicant will be required to pass a background check. This is an agency shop position.

Work Schedule: This is a nine (9) month term of employment and will be required to work day, evening and/or weekend shifts

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in large scale or institional food service OR One year as a Cook 1 in State service. Please note: Completion of a course in large?scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experience

Specific Position Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED

Food Handler's Permit

Valid Drivers License

Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

AA degree or Certificate of Culinary Arts


Two years of formal culinary education
