Job Description:

Under the direction of the Project Director and in consultation with other project staff, lead the process of developing and implementing marketing strategies for the USD Campus Suicide Prevention project, including print, Web-based/electronic and broadcast media outlets

Performs duties under the guidance and direction of the Principal Investigator and the Senior Advisor of the project. Provides immediate supervision of one graduate assistant.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefit based position with an assignment end date of October 5, 2014. Extension is contingent upon funding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Media and Outreach Coordination
• Under the direction of the Project Director and in consultation with other project staff , lead the process of developing and implementing marketing strategies for the USD Campus Suicide Prevention project, including print, Web-based/electronic and broadcast media outlets
• Oversee and maintain project marketing activities
• Develop specific marketing strategies for special populations as needed (e.g., international students, GLBT students, men, veterans)
• Ensure the cultural sensitivity/appropriateness and accessibility of marketing strategies
• Ensure consistency of marketing strategies
• Oversee and maintain scheduling of project activities
• In consultation with project director, develop, direct, and maintain marketing evaluation processes and reports, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation
• In consultation with project director, supervise Assistant Coordinator of Media & Outreach
• Attend project staff meetings

Supervision of Graduate Assistant
• Provides direct supervision to the Assistant Media and Outreach Coordinator – Graduate Assistant


• Bachelor’s degree in a social science, public health or related field. Master’s degree in these areas preferred.
• Knowledge of the characteristics of today’s college students, evidence of multicultural competence, familiarity with campus student services
• Skills: marketing strategies development, writing, social media
• Experience with the development of public health related market strategies
• Organized, flexible, creative, innovative, open-minded

• Supervisory experience with graduate and/or undergraduate students

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
• Upon employment will complete trainings as determined by Office of Sponsored Programs

Performance Expectations: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Must be a self-starter with initiative and ability to stay on top of work with minimum
of supervision and anticipate needs of organization.
• Prefer experience in maintaining confidential data bases of detailed information
• Prefer knowledge of working in a University setting.
• Ability to handle confidential student information in accordance with professional guidelines ,state and federal regulations
• Possess effective organizational and time-management skills.
• Must possess flexibility and versatility in order to contribute to evolving work situations.
• Must be able to work independently, taking initiative and setting priorities in a dynamic environment of regular interruptions, multiple projects, and deadlines
• Ability to effectively trouble-shoot, exercising independent judgment to accommodate the needs of the project and the University by determining proper immediate response to resolve participants concerns or by referring to other appropriate personnel.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse population, including possessing the ability to develop and use empathetic listening skills, communicate with clarity and maintain an attitude that conveys respect, assistance, honesty and resourcefulness.
• Must have ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with volunteers and staff within a diverse, fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
• Strong, detail-oriented written skills including experience in writing and proofreading correspondence, reports, and drafting material for publication.
• Experience with giving presentations to diverse populations

Salary: $26.20 per hour

Hours: 20 hours per week; 8:30am-5:00pm, various evening events
