Assistant Professor - Biology - Genetics

The College of Science, Health and Engineering at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Biology with a focus on Genetics, to begin September 2014.

Key responsibilities for this position include: (1) Teach genetics, molecular biology, portions of the Introductory Biology for majors series, and elective courses in area of specialty (such as bioinformatics, molecular genetics); (2) Develop and sustain an active research program that complements the strengths of our faculty; (3) Obtain external funding to support scholarly activities; (4) Supervise master's theses and undergraduate research; (5) Advise and mentor undergraduate students; and (6) Professionally engage with the local community.

Additionally, the candidate selected for this position will be expected to offer interest and/or experience in online learning and pursuit to grants, to expand the university's endeavors in those areas.

The Department of Biology includes a diverse faculty and over 450 undergraduate majors and Masters-level graduate students focusing on evolutionary, ecological, molecular, physiological, microbial, and health sciences. Faculty members collaborate with the local medical community, resource management agencies, and private businesses to provide educational and research opportunities for our students.

Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university with an enrollment of over 12,000 students. The main campus is located in Cheney, 20 miles SW of Spokane, Washington's second largest city. A branch campus is located at Riverpoint in Spokane. The region offers a variety of cultural activities, high quality schools, and year round opportunities for outdoor recreation

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in a biological discipline with a comprehensive background in genetics.

ABD candidates will be considered, but they must complete their doctoral degree before Sept 16, 2014.

Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest or experience in online learning

Interest and/or experience in pursuit of grants
