Working Title: Area Coordinator (pending a vacancy)/Residential Life Coordinator (pending a vacancy)

Job Summary/Essential Functions: The Area Coordinator and Residential Life Coordinator are full-time, 12-month live-in positions in the Department of Residential Life at Eastern Washington University.

The Area Coordinator is responsible for the overall administration of a residence hall complex consisting of 500-800 residents, the selection, supervision, and training of 15-30 residence life staff that includes community advisors and office workers as well as directly supervising the student staff of own building. This position provides leadership, guidance and support to the professional and student staff in their area in order to build positive and inclusive communities, foster opportunities for student growth, and outreach to the campus resources that allow students to be successful. As the primary on campus professionals, Area Coordinators perform "essential functions" and are required to report to work during emergencies and university closures. These staff members participate in an "on-call" rotation for the 24 hour per day, 365 day per year operation. This position requires significant weekend, evening, and early morning time commitments.

The Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for a residence hall of 250 to 400 students and promotes a positive living environment through effective communications with students, staff and other departments, as well as projects and activities. This position advises, counsels and educates students within the residential life setting, and is responsible for enforcing university and residence hall policies and regulations. This position oversees student employees, including selecting, training, supervising and evaluating student employees performing work in the residence halls. This position collaborates with a number of other departments on campus and some travel may be required.

This recruitment is for an anticipated start date of July 1, 2014.

Conditions of Employment:

This is a full-time, 12-month live-in position.

In addition to base salary, position includes apartment with utilities, cable TV, and meal plan (when dining services are open) with a value of $10,000, as part of the compensation plan.

This position, during the course of university employment, will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 18. Successful applicant will be required to pass a background check.

This is a 24 hour live-in position. Position will maintain regular "office hours," but will experience variances from regular hours to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and to assist with emergency situations. This position is on an "on-call" rotation for the 24 hour per day, 365 day per year operation. This position requires significant weekend, evening, and early morning time commitments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Area Coordinator:

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and at least four (4) years of full-time related and progressively more responsible or expansive professional experience as a hall director, residential life staff or an equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience.

OR

A Master's Degree and at least two (2) years of full-time related and progressively more responsible or expansive professional experience as a hall director, residential life staff or an equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience.

Candidates must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or Counseling is preferred.

Residential Life Coordinator:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

Minimum of one year, residential life, live-in experience

Organizational skills

Effective communication skills

Effective interpersonal skills

Candidates must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or Counseling is preferred.
