Job Description:
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applications for the Mower Endowed Professor of Persuasive Communications, full-time Professor of Practice position (PoP) with an Advertising professional who has impressive creative experience beginning on August 19, 2024. The Professor of Practice's main responsibilities include teaching six courses per year, bringing national and international visibility to the School, maintaining connections to the industry to keep the department and School current on professional practices and innovation, and joining committee services to the department, School, University, and industry.
Qualifications:
The Mower Endowed Professor of Persuasive Communications will show:
- enthusiasm and promise for exemplary teaching, whether through prior teaching experience or similar professional roles mentoring/supervising young advertising practitioners.
- the evidence of building closed connections with the creative sector of advertising industry, bringing cutting-edge knowledge to classroom, and sharpening students skillsets that closely meet the industry demands.
- an impressive advertising portfolio featuring distinguished and award-winning work for notable brands.
Applicants with strong experience in copywriting, art direction, production and/or the new/emerging media are particularly desirable. University teaching experience is preferred but not mandatoryA bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities:
Teaching: The Mower Endowed Professor of Persuasive Communications will teach six courses per academic year. Teaching responsibilities will include primarily undergraduate advertising portfolio and strategy courses that complement the individual's expertise. Courses that the new hire might teach include multiple sections of ADV 401, 421, 431, 208, 206, and other courses especially in the graduate level that complement the individual's expertise or specialization. The person may contribute new ideas to expand the graduate program that includes the Creative Track. Industry Connections/Committee Services/Career Advising/Portfolio Reviews and Mentorship: The position expects connecting the creative ad industry with our advertising students, which would involve such activities as: bringing CCOs of top ad agencies in as speakers in the Eric Mower Advertising Forum; lining up award-winning creative directors from top ad agencies to be mentors to creative teams in Portfolio 3; working with the SU Newhouse Creative Council of top leaders in the industry to help keep the curriculum current and relevant; help invite ad agencies to the SU Newhouse Advertising Portfolio Review; among others. And, develop new ideas to connect the creative ad industry with our creative advertising students.
