The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in Biochemistry beginning August 1, 2025. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry with emphasis on biochemistry or a closely related field. Teaching experience is advantageous and postdoctoral research experience is strongly preferred. Teaching responsibilities will include biochemistry, proteins & nucleic acids, a contribution to organic chemistry, and other courses in the bio- and health-related area of expertise. Additionally, the applicant will be expected to share the responsibilities in managing the biochemistry curriculum, biochemistry teaching laboratory, and biochemistry laboratory instrumentation. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a productive undergraduate research program, with collaborative possibilities within campus and in the community, including the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach courses of interest to science students from across campus. Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction, and in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan. The Department of Chemistry and Physics at UTC comprises 22 (16 Chemistry and 6 Physics) faculty members and is approved by the American Chemical Society. The department has approximately 150 majors, 60% are in the Biochemistry track, and is noted for excellence in undergraduate education and research, including a ten-week summer research program (see https://www.utc.edu/chemistry-physics/).

  4. one-page statement of teaching philosophy;
  5. a description of research interests that includes undergraduate students (no more than 3 pages)
