Elon University invites applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in The Department of Exercise Science, beginning mid-August 2025. This position requires someone who brings an interdisciplinary perspective, can demonstrate significant and sustained teaching related to exercise science, and a research agenda that can be translated to the undergraduate setting and expands on the department's current expertise. To grow our department's scholarly and mentoring reach, applicants excited about pursuing work related to women's and gender-oriented exercise and health, health disparities and inequities, and/or community-based interventions and outreach are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to housing the Exercise Science major and minor, the department supports growing interdisciplinary programs in Dance Science, Food Studies, and Neuroscience, as well as University initiatives in data competency. Completion of a PhD in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field is required (ABD considered with completion by starting date).

Teaching will include courses in the Exercise Science program and may extend into courses in the Elon Core Curriculum (e.g., COR 1100: The global experience) or related interdisciplinary programs (e.g., neuroscience, public health studies, food studies). Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people are encouraged to identify their experiences in contributing to a climate of inclusivity in their cover letters.

The Exercise Science Department is one of the largest departments in the College of Arts and Sciences with over 260 majors and 80 minors. As part of the University's HealthEU initiative, the Exercise Science Department will be moving into a new shared building slated to open in summer 2026 which will feature office space, classrooms, and laboratories. Faculty are actively engaged in mentoring undergraduate research in a variety of areas including cardiometabolic health, energy metabolism and body composition, multidisciplinary concussion research, neuromotor control and learning in special populations, performance enhancement, as well as sport and dance biomechanics to name a few.
