Academic Advisor

Job Description:

The Academic Advisor serves as a member of the Academic Advising team, and works alongside Advising staff, faculty, the Registrar, academic support staff, and student life staff to support the University's efforts to maximize student progress and success. This includes monitoring and reporting on student progress to faculty, student life staff, the Registrar, and the Dean. The Academic Advisor will help students successfully transition into college and achieve academic milestones, including declaration of major. They will serve as the primary advisor to a caseload of first-year and sophomore students, and a resource to all undergraduate students throughout their college careers. The Academic Advisor will work as a member of the Academic Advising team to develop and implement student support programs, faculty training programs, participate in meetings regarding academic advising and student academic development, and make recommendations to the Dean for modifications and improvements.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Assists with the general academic advising and monitoring of the academic progress of undergraduate students.
Provides support for advising and registration of students as needed.
Plans and presents workshops for students and faculty on topics related to advising, registration, and general academic information, policies, and procedures.
Serves as a contact and resource for students, faculty and staff for issues relating to the University's academic requirements and student academic progress.
Assists with outreach to and follow-up with students for whom concerns have been shared through the University's Early Alert system and provides appropriate referrals to campus resources.
Assists with administrative duties including processing status changes, leave of absences and withdrawals, add/drop and course withdrawals, and other processes that align with the University calendar in support of student success.
Participates in training and programming initiatives offered through the Office of Academic Advising and the Dean's office.
Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree (required).

Experience:

A minimum of two years of experience in academic advising in a college environment.
Experience with modern student information systems, learning management systems, MS Office Suite, and early alert systems.

Experience in advising specific student populations (first-year, education majors, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Salary:The annual salary for this position is $62,400.
Hours Expectation:Full-time, 35 hours per week
Housing: Housing is not provided.
