Job Title: Cytomics Data Science Research Manager

Job Summary:

The Cytomics Data Science Research Manager will be vital to the success of the CytoLab Data Analysis program. They will supervise a team that focuses on performing high-level cytometry analysis on translational research projects across the Department of Pediatrics and the Anschutz Medical Campus. They will consult and present on a variety of projects both internally to the University and externally to collaborators and societies worldwide. They will have the opportunity to develop tools, workflows, and resources that can be published and shared with the larger data analysis community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performing advanced quantitative high dimensional cytometry analysis focusing on mass and spectral cytometry and integration with other single-cell techniques, including imaging, on complex translational research projects.
  • Developing new tools for advancing workflows and analysis projects.
  • Execute high-level analysis and associated figure generation for grants and publications.
  • Advise direct FTE reports on their project components.
  • Align work by reports to further the Program's mission in supporting Investigators in analysis needs.
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot issues with Program and Scientific Directors.
  • Train Investigators directly and at workshops designed to customize analysis approaches for projects of varying scopes.
  • Present on work being done in CytoLab program both internally and externally.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, engineering, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five (5) years of professional-level research experience in cytomics / high dimensional cytometry and analysis (e..g, mass cytometry, spectral flow cytometry).

Condition of Employment:
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
  • Some domestic and international travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Biology, Microbiology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience in a data management or bioinformatics setting.
  • Prior experience leading high dimensional cytometry and cytomics training and teaching.
  • 5+ years of translational research lab management experience.
  • Experience communicating high-level analysis work illustrated through multiple publications and presentations, including first-author publications and invited talks.
  • International recognition and established presence in Cytometry societies and leadership.
  • Experience performing analysis on projects generating and integrating multiple data types and sharing data using cloud tools and repositories (e.g., Cytobank, FlowRepository).
  • Experience depositing and maintaining code on Github and/or developing R/Shiny web apps (as on CytoLab.org).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability and confidence to effectively function independently, be a self-starter, and be a team player within a collaborative organization.
  • Other required skills include creativity, excellent communication (written and oral) skills, strong math and quantitative skills, strong computational analysis, and visual presentation skills.
  • Must have successfully trained and led project team members in previous positions.
  • Ability to effectively present analysis stories to internal and external organizations.
  • Expertise in data science and machine learning methods for cytometry utilized by CytoLab, including dimensionality reduction, clustering, and cell type annotation using Marker Enrichment Modeling (MEM). Advanced knowledge of cytomics / high dimensional cytometry.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting hiring range for this position has been established as $74,799 to $95,145.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
