University Information Services (UIS) provides technical services and enterprise applications to the University of Colorado's (CU) four campuses and the Office of the President. UIS is committed to excellence in customer service, technical expertise, and the development of enterprise applications responsible for supporting CU's students, faculty, staff, and others.
Position Summary:
The QA Engineer interfaces with application developers to provide testing feedback and problem resolution. This position requires skill in system testing and administration techniques. As defined by the quality assurance processes, the QA Engineer will work with the Manager Quality Assurance to certify tested applications for production, to deploy change request items to test and production environments, and to ensure that all documentation for the System is in place prior to release into the production environment.
As a member of the Quality Assurance Team, this position supports all University Information Services applications development teams in their development, design, planning, and scripting testing scenarios by establishing and executing test scripts, and by reporting on test results. The QA Engineer supports both feature and regression test designs.
This position reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified System.
Where You Will Work:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule, working most days from home and occasional days in office. Therefore, applicants must reside in the state of Colorado.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and work with project teams through the design and test stages to ensure adherence to business requirements
- Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and cases
- Assist in the planning, design, and execution of functional, performance, regression test scripts using various Open Text testing tools
- Document metrics and provide thorough and concise metrics to Project Team
- Adhere to all timelines established through QA Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Support Browser Compatibility Testing (BCT) testing using Browser Stack tool
- Schedule and analyze overnight weekly load tests, running weekly UFT tests for portal and CS PUM, and providing results to customers overall delivery perspective
- Assist and support the maintenance of WPM (SolarWinds) alert management system
- Support Senior QA Engineer to integrate testing solutions and test methodology across organization
- Support Maintenance Windows during weekends and after hours
- Work collaboratively with a variety of groups including senior leadership
- Work with senior staff to gain more knowledge to improve QA processes on projects
- Learn and follow defined processes and industry best practices
- Collaborate effectively within the team environment and receive mentorship from appropriate team members
- Receive constructive feedback and be a positive representative
- Perform other duties as assigned by the QA manager

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications. You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.
- Bachelor's degree from and accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
- One (1) year of experience with system and application implementation testing including the following:
- Executing, and documenting software systems' testing
- Documentation of test results, process, and metrics
- Executing test cases, scripts, plans and procedure both manual and automated
- Tracking and logging project issues/defects
- Work management software such as Team Dynamix
- Tools including or like TOAD, Cherwell, MS Office, MS Access, Visio, UFT, Silk Performer and ALM.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education
- Two (2) years' professional experience
- Experience in the following:
- Working in Higher Education environments
- ERP system such as Oracle PeopleSoft including HCM/FIN, Campus Solutions and Portal.
- Issue tracking software such as Cherwell, JIRA, Team Dynamix, or ServiceNow
- Working Knowledge of the following:
- Web technologies such as HTML/DOM, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX
- UFT, ALM, and Load Runner tool features and supporting basic maintenance window testing
- Knowledge of the following:
- Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and project management methodologies
- Browser Stack tool and Browser Compatibility Testing standards
- Web Performance Monitoring tools
- SQL
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:

- Ability to prioritize workflow in accordance with departmental goals and initiatives
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Skills in Open Text testing tools, web monitoring toolsets (e.g., SolarWinds), and Browser Compatibility Testing
- Ability to gain and share knowledge of each project being worked on
- Constant learning of new QA techniques and methodologies
- Hands-on experience with both white box and black box testing
