Job Description
The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Histotechnologist, located within the Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences department. This position provides technical support by performing routine procedures involved in preparing tissue samples for microscopic evaluation.


Responsibilities
Histology:

Performs histology tasks to include processing, embedding, sectioning, and performing routine slide staining on clinical and research tissues. Uses and maintains automated machines such as processors, H&E stainers, and cover slippers. Archives blocks, slides, and seal blocks. Prepares basic reagents. Assists with quality control and record-keeping.

Gross Trim:

Receives specimens from biopsy for processing. Accessions and performs routine and specialized gross trimming procedures on formalin-fixed specimens.

Qualifications
Depending on experience and qualifications of successful candidate, individual will be hired in as a Histotechnologist 1, Histotechnologist 2, or Senior Histotechnologist 1:

Histotechnologist 1
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year of relevant experience

Histotechnologist 2
  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years of relevant experience
  • Preferred Qualifications: Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) training. Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Senior Histotechnologist 1
  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 4 years of relevant experience
  • Preferred Qualifications: Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) training. Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required of this position.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • UT market range: MR 07, MR 08
  • Anticipated hiring range: $47,132.80-$51,953.20 annually
